A few years back, a client presented me with their sales mantra for the coming year: Think outside the box.
I laughed.
And that's how this blog got started.
Too often, people and their organizations are resigned to abandon the confines of their boxes, to leave that which is known in pursuit of the great unknown. But often the reality is that their leaving is more of an escape.
In the end, the grass may not always prove to be so much greener, but it's certainly different. And when companies feel an itch, they sometimes scratch it with the first thing they find - so long as it's new.
What they often don't recognize enough is the many valuable resources that may already exist around them: within their employees, their partners, their markets, and within their own hearts and minds. And when they leave the box, they also risk abandoning their roots and the core of what makes them great.
It's not always about being in or out of the box: sometimes it's about the box itself. Be creative. Be resourceful. Be bold. Be inventive. Build a better box.
